Donald K. Bowen, 51, of Peoria, passed away at 5:20 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2009, at home with his family by his side, after a courageous battle with brain cancer.


Don was born in Rochester, IN on October 29, 1958, a son of Robert Dale and Andrea Jayne (Borla) Bowen. He married Eileen M. Boddy on September 22, 1984 in Crystal Lake. She survives.


He is also survived by his parents, Bob and Andrea of Macomb; daughters, Megan, Amy, Kelly and Lauren, all at home; sisters, Susan (Alan) DeRoos of Macomb, Julie (John) Frank of Marion, IA, Barbara (Mike) Stewart of Indianapolis and Anita (Chuck) Meltzer of Sterling; brother, Steven (Tammy) Bowen of Angola, IN. Also surviving is Eileen’s family members who Don was very close to;  George & Joan Boddy, Sue (Wally) Kedzior, Mike (Jean) Boddy, Nancy (Keith) Weber, George Boddy, Jane (Mike) Thielsen, Chris (Paulette) Boddy.


Don had many nieces and nephews as well: Alissa DeRoos, Jack and Jennifer Frank, Sam Stewart, Elizabeth Orr, Emily and Anna Meltzer, Kylie and Brenden Bowen and also on Eileen’s side: Sarah, Mitch and Sam Kedzior; Kayla, Nick and Jake Boddy; Amanda, Cady and A.J. Weber; Dustin, Logan, Teagan and Sawyer Thielsen; Alex, Ben and Grace Boddy.


Don earned his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Western Illinois University. He was a member of Northwoods Community Church in Peoria and a fan of the Green Bay Packers.


He was most recently the co-founder and Vice President of Business Development for UnboundID, Inc. of Austin, TX. He was formerly employed with Bradley University, Advanced Technology Services and Caterpillar, Inc., all in Peoria. Don also worked for Tidepoint, Burton Group and Sun Microsystems.


Have worked in the software industry for the past 29 years. The first 17 doing all forms of software consulting and development, both as an employee and for his own company. Since 1994 Don focused on the internet and more specifically on identity management, even before it was called that. Don had a very broad industry experience and industry contacts, with vendors, customers, analysts and press. This was a career for Don and anyone who knew him knows the passion he had for it.


Memorial contributions may be made in Don’s memory to The Navigators, Northwoods Community Church, The Bowen Family Trust or to the charity of the donor’s choice.


Arrangements have been entrusted to Clary Funeral Home, 428 West McClure Avenue, in Peoria.
